Accelerated Reader

Each quarter, students will read

to reach their AR (Accelerated

Reader) goal. Progress will be

monitored online as well as updated in the back of the classroom easily viewable by students. Students will have a personalized magnet with their name on it that they can move on the board for how close they are to their goal. Each time they pass a quiz online, they can move their magnet and see their progress. Upon completion of AR goals, students will receive one of the rewards below depending on which quarter it is on a predetermined date. Students will not be penalized for not meeting their AR goal each quarter. Instead, they will be rewarded for meeting their AR goal. However, if a student does not meet their goal, they will be required to sit with other students from grades 3 and 5 and complete other school work at the time the students who met their goal have their reward.

1st Quarter: Ice Cream Party

2nd Quarter: Extra Recess

3rd Quarter: Popcorn and Movie

4th Quarter: Pizza Party

As you can see in the picture above, we are blessed to have a beautiful selection of books arranged by AR levels in our classroom. Students are strongly encouraged to regularly use these resources to read toward their AR goal, in addition to the book(s) they check out in library class. Students will check out books from our classroom library and are asked to return them in a timely manner so that others may enjoy them. We have a flexible reading area near the bookshelves where students can get comfortable and enjoy their new book!

Please note that students are welcome to read online using either the epic! website or the digital resources available if they have a library card. The epic! website is only available for a short period of time after school unless you sign up for a parent account. Finally, please also note that the Accelerated Reader website is likewise only available for students to take quizzes for a very brief period of time after school. Students should complete their quizzes before school during the morning routine. Occasionally, time will also be provided during the school day during language arts studies.
