Diocesan LitFest

Note: Information about the 2025-2026 festival will be coming after the start of the new school year. Information below is from last year's festival.

The Diocesan LitFest is held annually by teachers in grades 4-6 and 7-9 in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Last year was the inaugural year. Prior to this, students attended the local English Festival.  This event is for students in grades 4-9 (our grouping will be grades 4-6; students in middle school will be grouped in grades 7-9 at Fatima) and was organized in an effort to promote quality reading among our students.  Interested students are required to read books from a predetermined list from the teachers within the Diocese of Pittsburgh.  I strongly encourage all fourth graders to participate, and all three or four novels will be read in class, regardless of whether your child participates or not. All students who participate in the festival are organized into teams of four or five in order to participate in various activities.

Miss Heckman (sixth grade teacher), Miss Elliott (fifth grade teacher), and I (fourth grade teacher) will work together to plan for the LitFest for grades 4-6 this year.

Last year, the LitFest for grades 4-6 was held at Seton LaSalle High School in the South Hills of Pittsburgh in May. More information will be coming soon about this year. The students will heard a presentation from the featured author.  They competed in various activities throughout the day in their small groups of 4 or 5 made up of students from Fatima in grades 4, 5, and 6.  These activities were based on their knowledge of the books.

More information will be coming soon about registration.
